bugs...

As much as i dislike the current American govenment, i do sometimes have a softspot for their military, as they come up with some of the most startlingly bonkers ideas in their current quest for world conquest and/or annihilation.

Trawling through the BBC news site today I found a wonderful report on what the Pentagon, or more precisely DARPA, their advanced projects agency, plans to do next.

Apparently they want to start implanting microchips in butterflies and other insects so that they can be controlled remotely and used as miniature insect army...!

The idea goes something like this... the control chip is implanted at the pupal stage, and the insects body grows around it, forming connections that can then be used to control the insect.

Ok... now forgive me if im wrong, but they seem to be ignoring the three things that most living creatures want to do... basically eat, sleep and have sex...

I seem to remeber the Russians having similar problems years ago, when they tried to wire a cats brain up as a missile guidance system... The entire thing fell apart when the missile saw a piece of string...
